An established and reputable construction business is seeking a Surveyor/Estimator to join its Property Services division on a permanent basis. This specialist division delivers insurance-related repair and reinstatement projects, typically following events such as flooding, fire damage, escape of water, and other building defects. Projects range from domestic and multi-residential to educational, industrial, and commercial buildings.
The successful candidate will be working across both tendered and negotiated projects, with values typically ranging from £10,000 to £500,000, as well as measured term/schedule of rates contracts from £20,000 to £100,000. We’re looking for someone who enjoys operating in a collaborative, solutions-focused environment and who can work with clients, consultants, and subcontractors in a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation. A significant portion of the work is from repeat clients, with whom the business holds long-standing relationships.
The ideal candidate:
- Commercially minded and collaborative
- Able to work on their own initiative with some guidance
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills
- Based within reasonable commuting distance (ideally within 45 minutes) of the Gloucestershire area
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing tenders and estimates for both negotiated and competitive projects
- Measuring works from drawings and on site
- Preparing and submitting quotations
- Negotiating and agreeing contract sums
- Preparing valuations, invoices, and forecasts
- Pricing and agreeing variations and final accounts
- Managing subcontractor procurement, orders, payments, and variations
- Attending site and team meetings
- Supporting delivery teams with commercial and contractual advice
Requirements:
- Good knowledge of construction processes and building regulations
- Experience with JCT contracts and measured term/schedule of rates projects
- Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel, Word, and Outlook
- A professional qualification in a related field is desirable
