London Teaching Pool are currently recruiting for a specialist SEN lecturer to work with children who have PMLD/ASD for a college in Kent. This college is a special school for young people between the ages of 16 and 19 who experience profound learning difficulties and complex needs. The college is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and compassionate teacher to come on board and join their hard working SEN team.

Required skills

  • Previous experience of working within SEN (ideally within complex needs/ASD).
  • Post 16 Teaching experience.
  • Experience with PECs or MAKATON.
  • Commitment to the development of both yourself and the pupils in your class.
  • Ability to deliver outstanding teaching and learning alongside a multi-disciplinary classroom team.
  • Understanding and commitment to safeguarding children.
  • QTLS or PGCE or further education qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Implement College policies and schemes of work according to the individual needs of students, having high expectations and setting challenging targets.
  • Implement the curriculum in accordance with the college philosophy and policies.
  • Organise personalised learning activities and experiences which are differentiated to meet the individual needs and levels of achievement of each pupil.
  • Ensure teaching programmes are supported by clear aims and objectives with appropriate links to recognised specialist approaches used within school including; TEACCH, PECS, SCERTS, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction and sensory regulation as appropriate.
  • Manage and promote the use of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT within your subjects.
  • Promote the inclusion of all students within the classroom.
  • Mark work and provide feedback to students and parents in line with school policy and practice.
  • Contribute to the preparation and development of programmes of study, schemes of work, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements throughout the school, including school trips, assemblies, performances and special events.
  • Be responsible for planning, tracking, evaluating, assessing and reporting the teaching and learning of pupils, including; completing Onward and Upward and/or BSquared, devising and updating Personalised Learning Plans on a termly basis and preparing annual reports in accordance with the schools practices and policies.
