We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and outgoing School Caretaker to join a welcoming one-form entry primary school in Walthamstow from September 2026 on a temporary, term-time-only basis. This friendly school has a strong community feel, where staff work closely together to create a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for pupils.
The Role
- Open and secure the school site each day.
- Carry out general handyman and maintenance tasks across the school.
- Ensure the school premises are clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Complete routine health and safety checks and report any maintenance issues.
- Set up and move furniture and equipment for school activities and events.
- Monitor contractors and deliveries when required.
- Ensure the school grounds are tidy and free from hazards.
- Support the day-to-day operational running of the school site.
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience as a school caretaker, site manager, facilities assistant, or in a similar maintenance role is desirable.
- Practical DIY and general maintenance skills.
- Proactive and able to use initiative to identify and resolve issues.
- Outgoing, approachable, and enjoys being part of a close-knit school community.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
- Willing to work the required hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm, with a 2-hour unpaid break during the day.
