School Caretaker

Location: Walthamstow Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Temporary (Term Time Only) Hours: 7:00am - 6:00pm (2-hour unpaid break during the day) Pay: From A£14.24 per hour

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and outgoing School Caretaker to join a welcoming one-form entry primary school in Walthamstow from September 2026 on a temporary, term-time-only basis.

This friendly school has a strong community feel , where staff work closely together to create a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for pupils.

As the caretaker, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the school, ensuring the site is safe, clean, secure, and well maintained for everyone.

The Role

  • Open and secure the school site each day.
  • Carry out general handyman and maintenance tasks across the school.
  • Ensure the school premises are clean, safe, and well maintained.
  • Complete routine health and safety checks and report any maintenance issues.
  • Set up and move furniture and equipment for school activities and events.
  • Monitor contractors and deliveries when required.
  • Ensure the school grounds are tidy and free from hazards.
  • Support the day-to-day operational running of the school site.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience as a school caretaker, site manager, facilities assistant, or in a similar maintenance role is desirable.
  • Practical DIY and general maintenance skills.
  • Proactive and able to use initiative to identify and resolve issues.
  • Outgoing, approachable, and enjoys being part of a close-knit school community.
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
  • Willing to work the required hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm , with a 2-hour unpaid break during the day.
