SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1) - Year 4 ASD Support

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Redbridge LEA from September 2026.

This is a long-term opportunity to provide 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who presents with challenging behaviour.

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, calm, and consistent, with the confidence to set clear boundaries while building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support the child's academic, social, and emotional development, helping them to access learning and achieve their full potential.

The Role

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with ASD.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies consistently and effectively.
  • Encourage engagement in classroom learning and social interaction.
  • Promote independence while providing appropriate guidance and reassurance.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals where required.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and behaviour.

  • Experience supporting children with ASD and/or additional needs.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management techniques.
  • Patient, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Firm but fair, with the ability to establish clear expectations and boundaries.
