Year 2 Primary Teacher - Key Responsibilities

As a Year 2 Primary Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative and well-structured lessons for a Year 2 class.
  • Deliver the full primary curriculum, adapting teaching to meet individual learning needs.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Support pupils to make strong academic progress and achieve their full potential.
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress, adapting teaching where appropriate.
  • Differentiate learning activities to support pupils of all abilities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and high expectations throughout the classroom.
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
  • Support pupils’ social and emotional development.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider school team.
  • Contribute to planning, assessment and school-wide activities where required.

Year 2 Primary Teacher - About You

The successful Year 2 Primary Teacher will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) — desirable/essential depending on experience.
  • Previous experience teaching within a primary school.
  • Experience teaching Key Stage 1, particularly Year 2 — desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum.
  • A creative and engaging approach to teaching and learning.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to meet individual needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, nurturing and inclusive approach.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to school life.
  • A genuine passion for helping children learn, develop and achieve their potential.
