We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our growing infrastructure team. This is a key role responsible for leading the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates across a range of major infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have strong expertise in NEC forms of contract and a proven track record in delivering estimates for complex civil engineering works, including developing estimates from first principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for infrastructure projects, including highways, rail, utilities, or energy schemes.
- Develop robust cost estimates from first principles, including labour, plant, materials, and productivity outputs.
- Interpret and apply NEC contract requirements (NEC3/NEC4) within the estimating process.
- Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate pricing strategies.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options during the bid stage.
- Collaborate with project managers, planners, and commercial teams to ensure alignment of assumptions and methodologies.
- Prepare cost plans, bills of quantities, and tender submissions.
- Engage with supply chain partners and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
- Support bid presentations and post-tender negotiations.
Requirements
- Significant experience in estimating within the infrastructure or civil engineering sector.
- Demonstrable experience in building estimates from first principles.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential).
- Proven ability to manage large and complex tenders.
- Excellent commercial awareness and risk management skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
