Major Residential Refurbishment Project

We are working with one of the UK's leading regeneration and refurbishment contractors to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor for a major long-term project in West London. Importantly, you don't need to already be working as a Managing QS. We are equally interested in speaking with experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors who are ready to take the next step, lead a commercial team and take greater responsibility for the commercial performance of a major project.

You will be joining an established project and commercial team, rather than having to build everything from scratch.

The Project

The scheme involves the major refurbishment of four occupied residential tower blocks in West London, incorporating extensive internal and external works, building upgrades and wider regeneration works. You will be commercially leading the project while managing an established team consisting of:

  • 2 Senior Quantity Surveyors
  • Project Quantity Surveyor
  • Assistant Quantity Surveyor
  • Trainee Quantity Surveyor

The role is client-facing and will involve working closely with the operational team and senior commercial management. You will typically be expected on site around three days per week, providing a good level of flexibility around the remainder of your working week.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Take commercial responsibility for a major residential refurbishment project
  • Lead, support and develop an established Quantity Surveying team
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts and CVRs
  • Oversee subcontract procurement and package management
  • Manage variations, valuations and final accounts
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
  • Work closely with the client and operational delivery team
  • Lead commercial meetings and provide accurate financial reporting
  • Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team
  • Ensure the project maintains strong commercial performance throughout delivery

Who We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with both established Managing Quantity Surveyors and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors who feel ready to step up. You will ideally have:

  • Main contractor experience
  • Strong Senior Quantity Surveyor-level commercial experience
  • Residential refurbishment, regeneration, recladding, planned works or major refurbishment experience
  • Experience managing substantial subcontract packages
  • Strong CVR, forecasting and commercial reporting experience
  • Good contractual knowledge
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders
  • Experience supporting or managing junior Quantity Surveyors
  • Occupied refurbishment experience would be advantageous, but isn't essential if you have strong relevant main contractor experience.

Why Consider It?

This isn't simply a move onto another project. It's an opportunity to take greater ownership, lead an established commercial team and potentially make the step from Senior QS into Managing QS within a major contractor. The business has a reputation for retaining its people, offering a sensible work-life balance and providing long-term career opportunities. They have even had employees leave for opportunities elsewhere and subsequently return to the business.

The package includes:

  • £85,000-£95,000 basic salary
  • £5,200 car allowance or company car
  • Minimum 5% annual bonus
  • Private healthcare
  • Excellent pension contribution
  • Travel expenses
  • Around three days per week on site
  • Long-term project and secured workload
  • Genuine progression for an ambitious Senior QS

If you're an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor wondering what the next step looks like, or an established Managing QS considering a change, we would be keen to have a confidential conversation. Apply now or get in touch for further details.
