Présentation de la structure :

What if the firmware you write today controlled power delivery to aircraft at airports in 60+ countries tomorrow?

At TLD Powervamp, a business in full growth and the aviation industry’s pioneer in zero-emission ground power, you will shape the embedded intelligence at the heart of our GSE products : from initial prototyping to production at scale, and from our Kempston site to ramps worldwide.

Join our Engineering team and build the firmware that drives the next generation of electric, eco-friendly Ground Support Equipment.

Présentation du poste :

Your Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Senior Expert Engineer, you design, develop, and validate the embedded software and firmware that drives Powervamp's GSE product range. You work across the full development cycle - from architectural design through hands-on testing to production deployment - in close collaboration with hardware designers and a multidisciplinary engineering team. Your mission: deliver robust, reliable, and well-documented embedded systems that meet the demanding performance and safety requirements of the aviation ground support environment.

Concretely, you will:

  • Design, develop, and validate firmware: code, test, and debug system software and firmware in embedded systems; troubleshoot hardware/software interactions from signal level to system behaviour to ensure correct and robust operation in the field.
  • Drive software architecture: participate in architectural design decisions and contribute to technical specifications and design reviews that define how our products behave on the ramp.
  • Optimise and maintain code quality: analyse and refactor new and existing codebases for performance, reliability, and maintainability; apply structured code management and peer review workflows using version control tools.
  • Perform hands-on testing and debugging: validate embedded systems with industry-standard instruments including oscilloscopes and logic analysers; ensure your code meets functional and reliability requirements before it reaches a live airport environment.
  • Support hardware development: assist with PCB layout, design, and validation; contribute to Electrical CAD drawings including cable harness drawings; participate in electronic component selection and validation - bridging firmware and the hardware it runs on.
  • Accelerate new product introduction: support the transition from prototype to production; maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation for code and system architecture to enable seamless handover and long-term maintainability.

Profil recherché :

The Profile We Are Looking For :

  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Solid embedded C experience, ideally on Microchip 16- and 32-bit devices; experience with STM32/ARM platforms is a strong advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded debugging tools: oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and similar instruments.
  • Electrical and electronic design background; PCB development experience (e.g. Altium Designer) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitHub/GitLab) and structured software configuration management practices.
  • Methodical, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving: you read signal traces, isolate root causes, and document your findings clearly.
  • Good communicator and team player - comfortable contributing to cross-functional technical reviews and working alongside hardware and mechanical engineers.
  • Field and product focus: you think beyond the bench - aware of how your firmware behaves in real-world aviation service conditions and what that means for reliability, safety, and aftermarket support.
  • Adaptability: comfortable switching between new product development and legacy code maintenance, firmware and hardware support tasks, without losing sight of your delivery commitments.
  • Proactive and outcome-driven, with a sense of initiative and a continuous improvement mindset.

Your Place in the Organization :

You report to the Senior Expert Engineer at Powervamp, Kempston, and work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning embedded, electrical, and mechanical disciplines. You collaborate closely with hardware designers, PCB developers, and product engineers - as well as with TLD engineering teams worldwide. Hierarchy at TLD is short and accessible: your technical contributions shape how our products perform in the field, and the path from hands-on engineering to broader technical ownership is open to those who deliver.

Why You’ll Want to Apply :

TLD Powervamp is a business in full growth: new products are being developed, zero-emission GSE demand is accelerating, and the firmware you write will control ground power units trusted by airlines and airports in 60+ countries. You will work across the full embedded stack - from bare-metal C on Microchip and STM32 microcontrollers to 400 Hz frequency converters and 28 V DC battery management systems - in an environment where technical depth is valued, hardware curiosity is rewarded, and international exposure comes with the role. At TLD, hierarchy is short: your voice carries weight. If you are energised by embedded challenge, hardware-software co-design, and a real contribution to the decarbonisation of aviation ground support - we'd love to hear from you.
