Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join the exceptional SEN department at Rainham School for Girls. This post is for 29.75 hours per week, term time only, and will be paid at Scale 4 of the National Junior College (NJC) Scale, £26,403 – £28,142 (FTE) equating to £17,690 – £18,855 for this particular role.
Core Purpose and Responsibilities
To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. The role involves planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for small groups and individuals, monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting students’ achievement, progress and development.
Key duties include:
- Planning and delivering challenging learning activities tailored to student responses and needs.
- Delivering local and national learning strategies such as literacy and numeracy, and using other learning activities to support students’ skill development.
- Effectively using ICT to support learning and developing students’ independence in its use.
- Assessing students’ needs and applying specialist skills to support learning.
- Selecting and preparing resources, considering students’ interests, language and cultural backgrounds.
- Organising and managing resources as appropriate.
- Monitoring and evaluating student responses through assessment and monitoring strategies.
- Providing objective and accurate feedback and reports on student achievement and progress.
- Recording progress and achievement systematically, evidencing range and level.
- Providing feedback to students regarding progress and achievement.
- Establishing productive relationships, acting as a role model and promoting high expectations.
- Promoting inclusion, encouraging co‑operative interaction and engagement.
- Managing behaviour constructively in line with the school’s Behaviour Policy.
- Administering and marking tests, and invigilating exams/tests.
- Supervising lessons, including entry and dismissal of classes during short‑term teacher absence or by prior arrangement.
