We are looking for a dedicated Parent Governor to join our supportive and collaborative team at Heybridge Primary School. The governor will be a parent of a child currently enrolled at the school and will work with the school leadership team to oversee the strategic direction, policies, and overall performance of the school.
The most important qualities for any governor are a commitment to the welfare and achievement of the children, a desire to contribute to the school, common sense, and a willingness to commit time to the role. Governors should be able to think strategically, challenge, monitor, and support, in line with statutory and legal frameworks.
Heybridge Primary School is part of TKAT, a Multi-Academy Trust. The Trust is a charity; its Board of Trustees ensures compliance with charitable objectives related to the provision of education. The Trust Board is accountable for the performance of the Academies, and is held to account by the Department for Education. Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) are appointed by the Trust to oversee each Academy, with responsibilities set out in the TKAT scheme of delegation.
Role responsibilities
- Represent the Academy’s local community and stakeholders by ensuring that policies and practice meet community needs
- Ensure that the Academy’s long-term vision reflects community needs beyond current post-holders and aligns with TKAT’s vision and values
- Support Directors of Education to improve Academy outcomes
- Support the Headteacher to ensure staffing is efficient and effective
There are normally six governing body meetings per year, plus occasional short meetings for the pay committee. It is expected that Governors attend as many in-person meetings as possible, with some meetings potentially held virtually.
Engagement and development
Investing in our governors is a priority. We offer:
- Excellent ongoing governor and education CPD, with opportunities to network with other schools and governors across the Trust
- Friendly and supportive environment with a focus on Work/Volunteer/Life balance
- Access to Trust resources and materials to support governance
We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a significant number of applications are received.
