The Role of the Behaviour and Engagement Officer
- Support students, clients or service users with behavioural, emotional and social development.
- Implement behaviour support plans and strategies under the guidance of senior staff or specialists.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence, confidence and self‑regulation.
- Build trusting and professional relationships with individuals, families and multidisciplinary teams.
- Observe, monitor and record behavioural patterns, triggers and progress accurately.
- Provide one‑to‑one or small group support in educational, residential or community settings.
- Use de‑escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour safely and effectively.
- Encourage participation in learning, activities and social interactions.
- Maintain a calm, consistent and supportive approach in challenging situations.
- Assist with conflict resolution and emotional regulation strategies.
- Liaise with teachers, therapists, social workers and other professionals to ensure consistent support.
- Safeguard the wellbeing, dignity and rights of all individuals at all times.

- Experience working with children, young people or adults with behavioural or additional support needs is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Understanding of behaviour management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
- A proactive and flexible approach to supporting individuals with varying needs.
- Confidence working independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good observational and reporting skills with attention to detail.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and individual support requirements.
- A positive attitude with strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
