Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer Tiverton Town Council in Mid Devon is seeking to appoint an innovative, forward-thinking and highly proactive Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer to drive the Council forward into an exciting new period in its evolution, following the retirement of the Council’s current Clerk. Working Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, flexible hours including regular evening meetings and occasional weekends Benefits: Flexible working, pension scheme, 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays and two statutory days’ leave to be taken between Christmas and the New Year, training and development, annual appraisal scheme, generous sick pay/ maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave schemes The Council is responsible for a range of assets and services across the town and is hoping to substantially increase that range in the future. Currently, the Council has a budget of £588,163 and employs just over 3.5 full-time equivalent staff. The Council does not currently have an adopted strategic plan; the new postholder will lead on the creation of one and then deliver the objectives of it together with staff, elected councillors, residents and local stakeholders. A key role at the earliest opportunity after appointment will also be to ensure the Council’s staffing structure is suitable for the growing Council as it moves forwards to meet not just devolution challenges but also the aspirations of the Council, ensuring the very best services and facilities are provided for the residents and visitors of the town. This post will be at the forefront of ensuring that the town sees not just a continuation of services but a continuous improvement. The postholder needs to embrace change and growth and meet all the aspirations which the elected councillors have for Tiverton. The Town Council is a forward-thinking organisation which values innovation, community, and growth. It is not essential that candidates have experience in local government, but they must be committed to obtain the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) within the first year of employment if they do not already hold it.
