Overview
Are you an experienced process technician who’s worked in complex process manufacturing environments, ready for a career change and eager to help others grow? Tiro – a leading provider of science and technology apprenticeships since 2005 – is looking for a Work Based Learning Coach to support learners in our Process Manufacturing / Process Industry Technician apprenticeships across chemicals, petrochemicals, hydrogen, oil and gas, and wider process manufacturing.
Responsibilities
You’ll coach apprentices who work in highly controlled, complex process manufacturing environments using high‑hazard inputs… You’ll tenaciously drive learner progress and combine your plant credibility with coaching and mentoring to help learners connect theory to practice.
- Safe operations in high‑hazard environments (permit to work, isolations, SIMOPS, risk assessments, MOC awareness)
- Running and maintaining continuous processes to operational parameters
- Start‑up, shutdown and line/equipment changeovers
- Quality assurance and records (batch/shift logs, trend checks, escalation and corrective actions)
- Preparing equipment for maintenance and bringing it back online safely
- Incident response, audits and continuous improvement
- Regulatory compliance, environmental controls and sustainability
You’ll also be a strong relationship builder – working closely with employers, mentors and site teams (operations, lab, maintenance, engineering, supply chain) to ensure every apprentice receives the support they need.
Please note: this role involves travel to employer sites to coach apprentices in the workplace.
About You
We’re not interested in a tick‑box list of qualifications. We’re looking for someone who brings the right attitude, aptitude and credibility. You’ve built real credibility in complex process manufacturing environments, operated continuous plant safely and responded to deviations. You likely have experience mentoring apprentices or training new starters and take pride in people’s growth.
- You’re calm, credible and build trust quickly.
- You’re organised, self‑motivated and driven by progress.
- You’re passionate about helping others become safe, capable technicians.
Even if you’ve never worked in education or apprenticeships before, if you have industry experience and a desire to coach the next generation, we can teach you the learning side.
Safeguarding
This role involves contact with learners aged 16 and over. Tiro is committed to safeguarding and well‑being. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken and a DBS check required for the position.
