We offer an apprenticeship that lays the foundation for a career in asbestos management and surveying. You will gain practical technical skills within a safety‑focused workplace, supported by expert training and mentorship.

The Package

  • Starting salary of £21,000 to £25,396 per year, depending on age.
  • 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Working hours: 9:00‑17:30 or 22:00‑6:30 (night shifts).

What will I be doing as an apprentice?

  • You will support the day‑to‑day delivery of asbestos surveying, sampling, and site inspections, providing technical assistance to ensure safety, compliance and accurate reporting in line with regulatory and quality standards.

Summary of duties

  • Due to the nature of the role, you must be 18+ and possess a valid UK driving licence.
  • Engage in extensive learning and follow training and procedures accurately.
  • Observe and learn from colleagues to develop technical skills.
  • Assist in managing laboratory tasks, preparing technical reports and completing job‑related records.
  • Carry out tests, inspections and sample handling in line with quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment and follow all health, safety and emergency procedures.
  • Care for equipment, avoid waste and report damage or faults promptly.
  • Support company promotion at fairs and conferences where required.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, incident reporting and the company’s safety culture.
  • Produce reports and documentation for review and approval by senior staff.

Please note that you will be required to work night shifts.

What could the future look like?

Successful completion of the apprenticeship may lead to a full‑time position within 4‑Rail Services Ltd. You will also be positioned to pursue professional recognition such as registered Science Technician (RSci Tech) and other industry qualifications in asbestos surveying and management.

About You

You are reliable, responsible and detail‑oriented, comfortable working in varied conditions (including heights, confined spaces and all weather). Safety is your priority, and you are able to build rapport with customers, manage tasks under pressure and work well within a team.

Experience

Previous experience is not essential. We welcome applicants who are enthusiastic, proactive and keen to learn—whether they are school leavers, college graduates or people looking to retrain.

Qualifications

The most successful apprentices are driven by curiosity, honesty about their knowledge gaps, and a willingness to learn.

How the Apprenticeship Works

Over a 21‑month period, you will commit a minimum of 6 hours per week to off‑the‑job training (theory and practical). Apprenticeship training will be delivered by a tutor from Tiro and a mentor at 4‑Rail Services Ltd, ensuring you gain the knowledge, skills and habits needed for a career in asbestos management.

Eligibility

Applicants must be over 18, not in full‑time education, have lived in the UK for at least 3 years and have the right to work in the UK. If you do not meet all eligibility criteria yet, let us know and we can discuss options.
