We are a growing manufacturer of specialist machinery seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join our Customer Care team. Due to an expanding customer base and increasing machine customisation, this is an exciting opportunity to take on a varied and technically rewarding role both in-house and out in the field.
Hours: Monday - Thursday: 08:00 - 17:00 | Friday: 08:00 - 13:00 (1 hour lunch break each day). Overtime will be required when travelling to and from customer sites.
The Role
Reporting to the Technical Director, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, and ongoing servicing of our machinery. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting site visits for installation, commissioning, operator training, upgrades, and fault finding/breakdowns
- Writing, debugging, and commissioning software on-site for production line integrations
- Providing remote software diagnostics and support for machine breakdowns and upgrades
- Offering telephone and email support to customers experiencing machine issues
- Logging service, spares, and installation enquiries and keeping the support log up to date
- Liaising with internal teams (Spares, Service Administration) to ensure accurate customer status records
- Working with the Spares Team to generate parts and support quotes for customers
- Completing in-house quality documentation including test plans and validation documents
- Collaborating with internal colleagues to resolve build and design issues
What We're Looking For
Education
- Essential: A recognised qualification in Electronic, Electrical, or Control Engineering (e.g. BTEC, HNC or equivalent)
- Desirable: Degree in Electrical Engineering; chartered status or working towards it
Experience
- Essential: Background in mechanical/electrical engineering
- Electrical certification for working with 3-phase installations
- 5+ years' experience servicing machinery
- 5+ years' experience in fault finding on machinery
- 2+ years' basic programming experience with Siemens and/or Allen Bradley software
- Desirable: Experience installing/commissioning packaging machinery
- Experience commissioning production lines
- Experience in line validation and completing validation documentation
Skills:
- Strong fault-finding ability with a track record of implementing reliable solutions
- Ability to identify and recommend product development improvements
- Proficient in MS Office
- A collaborative team player
Personal Attributes:
- Valid passport (overseas travel required)
- Excellent communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to use own initiative
- Able to work to tight deadlines
- Willing to travel to customer and supplier sites in the UK and internationally
