If you're a hands-on engineer ready to step up — or already leading a team and looking for a site where your skills will genuinely be stretched — this is a role worth a serious look.
You'll be leading a shift team of two engineers at a high-output, AA BRC-rated food manufacturing site in Trafford Park. This isn't a desk-based management role; you'll be equally at home diagnosing a breakdown as you are driving an improvement project. With multiple CapEx projects in the pipeline, there's real scope to make a lasting impact on the site.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading and managing a shift team of two engineers to maximise plant availability and production uptime
- Carrying out and overseeing PPM and reactive breakdown maintenance across the factory
- Driving cost reduction, OEE improvement, and waste reduction initiatives
- Leading CapEx and engineering projects from planning through to delivery
- Managing contractors and issuing permit-to-work procedures
- Ensuring the team operates to the highest standards across health and safety, quality, hygiene, and budget
What we're looking for:
- Time-served apprentice-trained engineer (mechanical bias or multi-skilled) with an NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent (HNC a bonus)
- Strong mechanical skills with solid electrical knowledge to back them up
- Proven experience leading a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience managing engineering projects — CapEx experience a real advantage
- Comfortable with CMMS/maintenance management software
- Familiarity with highly regulated or audited sites (BRC, ISO, or similar)
- Someone who stays calm under pressure and makes good decisions when it counts
The package:
- £60,769 base salary + 5% annual bonus
- Continental shift — 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off
- Pension up to 10%, life assurance 4×, BUPA healthcare
- EV salary sacrifice scheme with free onsite charging
- Staff discounts worth up to £3k per year
- Cycle to work scheme
