About The Setting
This specialist alternative provision centre in Worthing provides a caring, positive, and inclusive environment for primary and secondary‑aged pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The setting focuses on helping students re-engage with education through a highly personalised curriculum designed to challenge, inspire, and rebuild self-esteem. By maintaining small class sizes and prioritising emotional well-being, the collaborative staff team works together to help young people build resilience, gain qualifications, and work toward positive futures. Following a successful 12‑week temporary placement, you will transfer directly onto the permanent staff team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist students with complex SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and develop positive learning behaviours.
- Work closely with teaching staff to deliver structured support, adapt to individual learning styles, and maintain engagement in lessons and daily routines.
- Act as a consistent, positive role model for vulnerable learners to promote re-engagement.
- Establish strong, trusting connections with pupils to promote their emotional well-being, confidence, and academic progress.
Position Requirements
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or young people within education, care, alternative provision, youth work, or a similar environment.
- Qualifications: GCSE Mathematics and English (or equivalent) are required.
- Personal Attributes: A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
- Skills: Strong communication, teamwork skills, and the ability to manage challenging behaviour positively.
