Hours: Full time (37 hours each week, all year round): Monday - Friday on a shift pattern basis of mornings 06:00 - 13:30 and afternoons 13:00 - 21:00

About the Role

As a Caretaker and Estates Operative, you are the backbone of our campus experience. You will ensure our buildings are safe, welcoming, and fully prepared for students, staff, and visitors every day. Your friendly professionalism and dedication will directly shape how people feel the moment they step onto our campus, making you a vital face of the College community.

Main Duties

  • Participate in shift rota to ensure an Estates presence on all campuses whenever the College buildings are open and conduct procedures to open and maintain security of college premises, in addition to keeping premises and equipment secure during the day.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of college buildings and grounds by removing refuse and emptying bins.
  • Promote general health and safety by keeping corridors and fire exits clear at all times of spills, trips or hazards as reported or noticed during walks around campus grounds.
  • Ensure rooms are prepared for use, setting up rooms for curriculum areas or meeting rooms, assisting with staff room moves or rearrangement of furniture.
  • Ensure goods/documents, post and parcels are delivered quickly to the correct areas, college campus, externally or within college buildings, so that departments can work effectively.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs where appropriate, advise on suggested improvements to the general environment and support risk assessments and preplanned maintenance programmes.
  • Respond to College emergencies including duties of evacuating the buildings in case of a fire or fire drill, directing emergency services as appropriate, and responding to lift breakdowns to release trapped persons.
  • Assist in the provision of First Aid as and when required.

You Will

  • Have prior experience of working in a maintenance/security/caretaking role or similar. This ideally would be within the education sector, but not essential.
  • Hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths or be willing to work towards.

Department Info

You will report to the Estates and Facilities Management Team and work cooperatively with colleagues across all College Campuses and premises.
