A growing organisation is seeking a highly organised Accounts Assistant to support both payroll and core finance operations. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial accuracy, ensuring statutory compliance, and supporting smooth month-end processes across the business.
Location: Worcester Area – Hybrid
Department: Finance
Contract: 12-Month FTC (potential for permanent)
Reports To: Financial Controller
About the Role
You will be responsible for end-to-end preparation and processing of weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring all activity adheres strictly to HMRC regulations. Alongside payroll duties, you will support transactional finance processes, including purchase and sales invoice processing, bank reconciliations, and key month-end tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process accurate weekly and monthly payroll cycles
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and internal payroll policies
- Maintain payroll records and complete payroll-related reconciliations
- Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, resolving discrepancies
- Process purchase and sales invoices in line with financial procedures
- Assist with routine bank reconciliations
- Support month-end close, ensuring deadlines are met
- Use and maintain proficiency in payroll and accounting systems (Sage 50)
What We’re Looking For
- AAT qualified or studying; payroll qualification desirable
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in payroll and/or finance
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and best practice
- High accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
- Confident communicator with the ability to resolve queries professionally
- Experience using Sage 50 or similar systems
Additional Information
- Responsible for payroll accuracy for approximately 220–250+ employees
- Works independently on routine processes, escalating complex issues when needed
- Office-based role with hybrid working and on-site parking
