About The Role

Orton Group is seeking a technically capable Rail SISS and Communications Project Manager to support the delivery of projects across the rail and infrastructure sectors. This role is firmly grounded in Security systems, Public Address systems, and data/information systems, with an expectation that the successful applicant is confident operating on site and directly supporting operatives, subcontractors, and clients. This is not a desk-based project management role. You will be visible on site, actively involved in technical problem-solving, coordination, and client engagement, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and works are delivered safely, compliantly, and to a high standard. Rail experience is preferred but not essential. Strong technical communications or security systems experience, coupled with a proactive attitude, is equally valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end project management of SISS and communications works, including security, PA, and data systems
  • Regular on-site presence to support operatives with technical queries, sequencing issues, and problem resolution
  • Acting as a technical interface between design, delivery teams, and clients
  • Planning, coordinating, and managing resources, programmes, and subcontractors
  • Managing client relationships, attending meetings, and representing Orton Group professionally on site
  • Ensuring compliance with rail/industry standards, specifications, and safe systems of work
  • Supporting commissioning, testing, and handover activities
  • Working collaboratively with internal electrical, fire, mechanical, and communications teams

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in security systems, communications, data or information systems project delivery
  • Technically confident: able to understand systems, drawings, and specifications and support site teams effectively
  • Comfortable being site-based and hands-on when required
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and face-to-face
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the Midlands and beyond
  • Rail experience desirable, but not essential

About You

You will be someone who enjoys solving problems, supporting teams, and being involved in the detail: not simply managing from a distance. You will take pride in helping operatives succeed on site and in building positive, professional client relationships. You will also align strongly with Orton Group's core values:

  • Courage: confident in making decisions and addressing challenges
  • Commitment: dedicated to delivering quality outcomes
  • Adaptability: able to respond effectively to changing site conditions
  • Partnership: working collaboratively with colleagues and clients
  • Support: actively helping others succeed

Why Join Orton Group?

You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, working alongside electrical, fire, mechanical, and communications professionals. We value technical competence, teamwork, and people who are prepared to get involved and make a difference on site. This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of meaningful projects within a business that values professionalism, collaboration, and technical excellence.
