With an engineering background or qualification, you will develop practical skills in tooling, machining and maintenance. Working alongside experienced Toolmakers, you will play a key role in ensuring production tooling is maintained, prepared and ready for use. This role offers a clear progression pathway into a fully skilled Toolroom/Die Maintenance Technician.

The Role

  • Support the maintenance, repair and preparation of production tooling
  • Assist Toolmakers with planned and reactive maintenance activities
  • Carry out tool cleaning and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Assist with machining operations (lathe, milling, grinding)
  • Support tool assembly, alignment checks and testing
  • Perform basic inspection using gauges and measuring equipment
  • Help identify tooling issues and support problem resolution
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping (5S) and safety compliance
  • Work closely with production and quality teams

Essential

  • Engineering apprenticeship or qualification (NVQ, BTEC or similar)
  • Strong interest in engineering, manufacturing or toolmaking
  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation

Desirable

  • Experience in a toolroom, workshop or manufacturing environment
  • Basic machining knowledge (lathe, milling, grinding)
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
