The Role

  • Carry out mechanical breakdown repairs and preventative maintenance on industrial machinery
  • Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical systems, with some electrical and control system involvement
  • Dismantle, repair, replace, and test machine components to ensure optimal performance
  • Perform fabrication and machining tasks, supporting maintenance and improvement work
  • Carry out welding (MIG and TIG), fabrication, and manual machining using mills, lathes, and pillar drills, along with sheet metal work to support equipment repair and improvement
  • Maintain accurate records using CMMS systems
  • Identify and source parts, tools, and consumables
  • Support continuous improvement (CI) projects to enhance performance and reduce downtime
  • Mentor junior technicians and support team development
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety and 5S standards

About You

With previously experience of working within heavy industry, you’ll be a mechanically biased engineer with the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a mechanical maintenance role
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair skills
  • Good working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
  • Proven ability to carry out welding (MIG and TIG)
  • Experience in fabrication and component repair
  • Skilled in manual machining using mills, lathes, and pillar drills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Experience using tools, workshop machinery, and maintenance equipment

This role would suit someone who has previously worked as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Technician, or Shift Engineer.
