Overview: Are you a proactive and motivated Environmental and Sustainability professional with extensive experience implementing environmental management systems and undertaking ISO 14001 and ISO 1 audits? If so, this is the job for you. HSE Recruitment Network are recruiting for an Environmental and Sustainability Manager for a leading UK building materials manufacturer. This role focuses on leading the implementation and ongoing management of ISO 14001 and ISO 1 Environmental and Energy Management Systems across UK Water and Heating sites, driving compliance, performance reporting, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability initiatives.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support factory management in implementing and maintaining Environmental and Energy Management Systems across UK Water and Heating sites in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 1.
- Maintain the company Environmental Manual and Energy Manual, and keep the register of Significant Aspects up to date for each site.
- Compile and update the Evaluation of Compliance Register, communicating relevant legal and other requirements to key staff.
- Help set site-level environmental and energy targets and objectives, and track and report progress against them.
- Maintain and periodically review Emergency Procedures documentation for each site.
- Plan and carry out Environmental and Energy Management Reviews and internal audits to ISO 14001 and ISO 1 at agreed intervals.
- Support external surveillance and recertification audits for ISO 14001 and ISO 1.
- Organise and chair the annual Environmental and Energy Review for the Water and Heating sites.
- Analyse environmental and energy performance data, ensure timely corrective actions where needed, and identify opportunities for continual improvement.
- Submit routine environmental and energy data to regulators and internal systems as required.
- Produce regular environmental and social performance reports for senior management.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers and regulators, to ensure compliance and to deliver positive environmental and social outcomes beyond minimum requirements.
- Oversee the budget for sustainability projects at Water and Heating sites, including raising and managing purchase orders in line with company policies.
- Build colleagues' understanding of environmental and social sustainability through training, guidance and awareness activities.
- Provide wider support to the UK and Ireland sustainability team.
Essential Experience:
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Geography or another physical science; candidates with Business, Economics or other social sciences will also be considered where they can show a clear interest in corporate sustainability.
- Proven, relevant experience that demonstrates the skills and capabilities required for the role.
- Experience of managing and developing a team.
