Are you an organised and proactive professional who enjoys solving problems, working with contractors and making services better for residents? We are looking for a Senior Waste and Street Scene Services Officer to join our Waste and Street Scene Services department. This is a varied role where you’ll oversee the delivery of waste, recycling and street cleansing services across the district, helping to ensure high standards are delivered every day.
The post holder will lead on contractor performance, service inspections, customer and councillor enquiries, compliance monitoring, service improvements and environmental quality projects. You will help manage a range of essential frontline services that residents rely on every day, including household waste and recycling collections, street cleansing, fly-tipping removal and public conveniences. Working on behalf of the Council, you’ll help ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual and legal requirements, whilst identifying opportunities to improve performance and value for money.
You’ll work closely with contractors, council teams, neighbouring councils, residents and businesses to resolve issues, improve performance and support service improvements. No two days are the same, with a mix of office work, site inspections, data analysis, project work and contract management activities. This role is based at Castleham Business Park, Hastings.

Key Skills
- Experience in contract management, contract monitoring, compliance, operational service delivery or a similar role
- An understanding of how to work constructively with contractors and partners to maintain standards, resolve issues and drive service improvement
- Experience building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including contractors, public sector partners and customers
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence working with data, spreadsheets and performance information
- The ability to challenge performance professionally and work collaboratively to find solutions
- A full driving licence and the ability to travel across the district
