An established UK manufacturer with a long-standing heritage in precision engineering is looking to recruit an experienced Sliding Head CNC Machinist to join its machine shop team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a high quality, technically driven manufacturing environment producing close-tolerance components for a wide range of industrial applications.
Responsibilities
- Programming
- Program sliding head CNC lathes using G-code and/or offline CAM software
- Optimise programs to improve cycle times, tooling efficiency, and part quality
- Edit and improve existing programs to resolve machining or quality issues
- Setting and Operation
- Set, prove out, and operate sliding head CNC machines (e.g. Citizen, Tornos)
- Select, prepare, and set cutting tools, guide bushes, and work-holding equipment
- Produce components to engineering drawings and specifications
- Monitor machine performance and adjust offsets as required
- Quality and Inspection
- Inspect components using micrometers, verniers, gauges, and other measuring equipment
- Ensure all parts meet tolerance, quality, and surface finish requirements
- Health, Safety and Compliance
- Maintain high health and safety standards at all times
- Report any safety concerns immediately
- Ensure full compliance with company procedures and statutory regulations
About You
- Proven experience programming, setting, and operating sliding head CNC lathes
- Strong understanding of close-tolerance machining
- Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Methodical, quality-focused, and safety-conscious
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
