Are you an inspirational, resilient educator dedicated to re-engaging young people in learning? We are seeking a qualified specialist for a permanent, full-time Alternative Provision Teacher role based in Peterborough. In this vital position, you will work with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils who find it challenging to access mainstream education due to Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, or complex medical needs. Many of these young people are currently awaiting a permanent placement in a specialist school setting and require a highly supportive, adaptive environment to bridge the gap in their education.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and Deliver Targeted Sessions: Design and implement highly tailored, engaging 1:1 and small group lessons that align with the specific academic and developmental capacities of KS3 and KS4 pupils.
- Remove Barriers to Learning: Adapt teaching methodologies to support pupils with a diverse mix of SEN, SEMH, and medical needs, rebuilding their confidence and motivation.
- Monitor and Assess Progress: Track individual student development, providing comprehensive feedback and adjusting learning plans to support successful transitions into long-term specialist settings.
- Positive Behaviour Support: Establish safe, positive, and predictable learning spaces by deploying proactive de-escalation techniques and robust behavioural strategies.
- Collaborative Practice: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies, and families to ensure holistic support for every learner.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential for this position.
- Proven experience teaching or supporting vulnerable young people with complex needs, particularly SEMH, Trauma, Autism (ASC), or Medical needs within a secondary or alternative setting.
- Strong capabilities in lesson planning and curriculum differentiation across secondary key stages.
- A calm, empathetic, and exceptionally resilient professional demeanour, with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently to drive progress for individual learners.
- A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to undergo comprehensive vetting immediately).
What We Offer
- A permanent contract with a stable, competitive salary range of GBP32,000 - GBP36,000.
- The balance of a term-time-only schedule, allowing you to focus entirely on teaching during the academic year.
- A highly supportive and collaborative working environment with access to regular professional development and specialist training.
- Dedicated guidance from an industry-specialist consultant managing your onboarding process.
