In this role, you will advise DVSA on compliance with privacy legislation, specifically the Data Protection Act 2018, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other data privacy laws. You will ensure that relevant policy and procedures are in place and implemented to enable compliance internally and externally, including within the supply chain and other organisations through data protection clauses in contracts and data sharing agreements. You will also ensure that DVSA staff are well informed about the requirements of data protection law and promote best practice in handling personal data.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist information asset owners with data protection impact assessments, approving the data protection compliance check, and making risk‑based recommendations.
  • Assist information asset owners with the creation of privacy notices and data sharing agreements to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Respond to rights requests and Freedom of Information internal reviews.
  • Manage any data protection incidents: assess impact on individuals and notify relevant parties.
  • Provide data protection advice and guidance to DVSA, external organisations and the supply chain.
  • Support Commercial colleagues and Contract Managers in embedding data protection clauses within contracts.
  • Provide training and guidance on data protection law to DVSA colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Carry out assessments against the Information Commissioner's Accountability Framework to manage data protection compliance throughout DVSA.
  • Work with Traffic Commissioners and others to ensure data protection compliance, considering the data controller and data processor relationship.
