Overview

Shift Lead Engineer — Location: Central London (Zone 1). Salary: GBP55,000 + benefits. Hours: Shift pattern 5 on 5 off, 4 on 4 off, 7am–7pm (days only).

Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced M&E professional to step into a leadership role on a premier, high-spec commercial estate in Central London.

This role combines hands-on engineering, technical governance, and team leadership within a state-of-the-art facility featuring complex MEP infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Operations and Critical Systems: Operate and maintain all mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) systems on-site, ensuring high uptime.
  • Annual Power Downs: Lead annual building power-downs and functional switching activities (training for formal AP appointments will be provided).
  • System Monitoring and Alarm Response: Own critical alarm monitoring and incident response for 24/7 site operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Review and prepare Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) and participate in scenario drills.
  • Team Leadership and Compliance: Lead and coordinate the shift engineering team, manage handovers, resourcing, and cover for annual leave or training gaps.

Compliance: Drive a safety-first culture by ensuring all reactive and PPM work orders align with SFG20 and current HSE policies, deliver Toolbox Talks, and report near-misses.

  • Subcontractor Governance: Oversee specialist vendors, auditing their work quality and safety protocols to ensure compliance with site regulations.

Delivery: Ensure all planned and reactive work tickets are accurately updated, timed, and closed out within contractual SLAs via the site CMMS tablet.

  • Asset Lifecycle and Supply Chain: Monitor site spares, audit stock levels, and coordinate with the supply chain to procure parts for critical remedial works.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • Core Certifications: Level 3 electrical (or equivalent).
  • Testing and Inspection: C&G 2391 (or equivalent) for electrical inspection and testing is highly desirable.
  • Compliance and Safety: Current ACo P L8 / Legionella Awareness, IOSH Working Safely, and IPAF certifications are highly preferred.
  • Skills and Presence: Strong communication and basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Note: Candidates who demonstrate strong hands-on experience and a proactive attitude but do not meet every qualification are still encouraged to apply.
