Our client has a fantastic Occupational Therapist Senior Band 6 vacancy in Surrey. This client provides high quality, consultant‑led and patient‑focused adult and paediatric rehabilitation services for those diagnosed with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

Job Role:

  • To undertake specialised uni‑professional, multi‑professional assessments to develop and implement treatment plans for clients referred to the service. These clients will present with a variety of complex multi‑pathologies within specialist areas, including neurological conditions, musculoskeletal conditions, age‑related disorders, learning disability and mental health diagnosis.
  • To be responsible for gaining valid, informed consent for assessment and treatment interventions, and sharing of information following legal and professional guidelines.
  • To perform uni‑professional and multi‑professional specialist assessment and re‑assessment of treatment programmes using evidence‑based outcome measures and in accordance with RCOT guidelines, SSOAP, BSRM, NICE, RCP Guidelines.
  • Following specialist assessment to use advanced clinical reasoning, analysis, assessment and re‑assessment skills and using client‑centred goal‑setting approach, to develop and provide individual occupational therapy treatments and programmes for clients.
  • Demonstrate compassion, empathy and sensitivity towards clients who may have complex emotional and physical conditions.
  • Comply with local risk assessment when dealing with complex clients with challenging behavioural needs.
  • Be responsible for organising and prioritising own caseload to meet service needs and to communicate with your supervisor if the service needs cannot be met.
  • Prescribe appropriate equipment to clients in order to maximise their independence.
  • Travel to clients’ homes taking necessary assessment and treatment equipment and personal protective equipment as required.
  • Work closely with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team e.g. physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, podiatrist, pharmacist, case managers, consultant, psychologist, to provide a comprehensive seamless service.
  • Work as a lone practitioner, within the guidelines of lone working policy, when performing home visits.
  • Identify clients who need support from outside agencies, using clinical reasoning and analysis skills.
  • Support the members of the team in the day‑to‑day operation of service, this may include answering queries, fielding referrals, contributing to team discussions, responding to client needs, delegating and supervising appropriate tasks to rehabilitation assistants and administration staff.
  • Participate in the multi‑professional team meeting with each service area actively contributing and chairing as required.
  • Respond to inconsistent work patterns and be able to manage a diary and re‑prioritise as required.
  • Develop social media, update present occupational therapy specific education presentations to other health professionals, clients and carers.
  • Assist our team members with service development and service promotion, actively participating in service training programs.

Requirements:

  • Diploma/degree in occupational therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of up‑to‑date CPD portfolio/skills in the assessment and treatments of adults with complex neurological conditions and multi‑pathologies.
  • Desirable rehabilitation health ideal.
  • Experience minimum of 2 years working at a junior level in a wide range of clinical areas including neurology, general rehabilitation, falls, elderly medicine.
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex medical conditions including neurology, multi‑pathologies and falls.
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence‑based practice associated with people with incomplete information.
