Overview

The Maintenance and Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the building is safe, compliant, well-maintained, and presented to the highest standards. The role oversees all building maintenance, statutory compliance, contractor management, and health and safety systems, supporting an efficient and welcoming environment for members, staff, and visitors. You will work closely with all departments and manage one Maintenance technician, helping with their development. This will be a forward-facing role, so you will need to be comfortable helping members directly, should issues arise. Please do bear in mind that this is not a desk-based role; the incoming candidate will be required to undertake various repairs themselves. There will also be a requirement to work over some weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Management: Provide proactive and reactive maintenance support across all areas of the Club.
  • Maintain working knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, painting, doors, fixtures, and general building services.
  • Manage and prioritise daily work orders and ensure timely completion.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify risks, defects, and improvement opportunities.
  • Keep accurate maintenance logs, records, and compliance documentation.
  • Develop, implement, and review planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes.
  • Plan, manage, and oversee renovation and refurbishment projects in line with approved programmes and budgets.
  • Supervise, support, and develop the Maintenance Assistant.
  • Manage equipment, tools, and materials inventory.
  • Control departmental expenditure and contribute to budget planning.
  • Appoint, manage, and monitor contractors and service providers, ensuring value for money and compliance.
  • Health, Safety and Compliance: Act as the Club's lead for Health and Safety management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation, including but not limited to: Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, COSHH, Fire Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Health and Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain statutory compliance records, certificates, and inspection reports.
  • Arrange and oversee testing and servicing of alarm systems, fire detection systems, emergency lighting, and other safety-critical systems.
