London Teaching Pool is recruiting a specialist complex needs teacher to work with primary‑aged children (KS2) in a SEN school in Bow, East London. The role will start September 2026 and requires an urgent placement for an SEMH teacher to deliver the KS2 curriculum. This SEMH Teacher will teach the UK Primary National Curriculum to children with complex needs who have struggled in a mainstream environment. The class will consist of 6–8 children with 2 support workers. All primary students at the school arrive with an Education Care Plan (SEN statement). Many have missed education due to behaviour or specific learning difficulties and therefore have low prior attainment.
To be successful, you must have excellent behaviour/class management skills, knowledge of how to teach children or young people with complex needs, and relevant experience as an SEN teacher working with ASD or complex needs pupils. Excellent behaviour management skills are essential; Team Teach training is desirable.
Person Specification
- The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in a classroom environment.
- Strong track record of raising levels of achievement and motivation.
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS.
- Excellent behaviour management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people and staff.
- Team Teach or similar restraint training certificate.
- Good knowledge/experience working with children with complex needs within an SEN environment.
- Ability to teach the KS2 curriculum.
- Ability to work well as a team.
- A big personality.
- A valid DBS (preferably on update service).
- The right to work in the UK.
- A minimum of two references.
