A leading ground investigation contractor is looking to appoint a Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing Inverness team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a hands‑on role and wants to be heavily involved in the delivery of site investigations across a wide range of infrastructure, renewable energy, commercial and residential projects throughout Scotland. This position offers a balance of site supervision, project management and technical reporting, with opportunities to progress into senior and management‑level positions.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and delivering ground investigation projects from mobilisation through to completion.
  • Supervising drilling rigs, trial pitting operations and site investigation works.
  • Logging soil and rock samples to current industry standards.
  • Scheduling fieldwork and coordinating subcontractors and site teams.
  • Undertaking site inspections and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Interpreting ground investigation data and preparing factual reports.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors and project stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Managing project budgets, programmes and resource allocation.
  • Supporting junior engineers and site technicians.

Requirements

  • Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within ground investigation, site investigation or geotechnical contracting.
  • Strong understanding of drilling techniques, sampling and site operations.
  • Experience supervising site works and managing projects.
  • Good report writing and data interpretation skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • CSCS card preferred.
