We are delivering a once-in-a-generation GBP1bn+ Overhead Line (OHL) infrastructure project. This is not just a build; it is a critical component of the UK's transition to Net Zero. As Engineering Manager, you sit at the apex of the project's technical hierarchy. You will lead the transition from design to construction, ensuring engineering solutions comply with Scottish Power standards and are optimized for high-speed, high-safety delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Authority: Act as the final word on engineering decisions, managing technical queries (TQs) and design changes once the project hits the field.
  • Systems Integration: Oversee the complex interface between OHL, substations, access engineering, and temporary works.
  • Assurance and Quality: Implement a rigorous technical assurance framework to ensure every tower foundation, earthing system, and conductor tension meets the 80-year asset life requirement.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify engineering risks, such as geotechnical surprises or clearance issues, and develop mitigation strategies before they impact the critical path.
  • Leadership: Manage a diverse team of discipline leads (Civil, Structural, Electrical, and Geotechnical), fostering a culture of technical excellence and Safety by Design.

Experience Required

  • Extensive experience in high-voltage (HV) transmission, specifically steel lattice or T-Pylon OHL projects.
  • You have held a senior engineering role on a major UK infrastructure project (Water, Rail, or Power) worth GBP500m+.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status via IET or ICE is essential.
  • You're not just an office-based manager; you have dirt on your boots experience and understand the realities of OHL construction in challenging topographies.
  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
