Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re:integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care.
HMP Rye Hill is a category B training prison situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby in Warwickshire, holding approximately 664 sentenced male adults.
We now have an opportunity for an Employability Instructor to join our team at HMP Rye Hill to undertake planning, delivery and assessment of Employability and Personal Development training for adult learners, to meet contractual requirements and Awarding Body standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop engaging schemes of learning and session plans to ensure a vocationally relevant delivery up to Level 2
- Develop and adapt learning materials, resources and planning to meet individual learning needs
- Facilitate assessments to provide opportunities for learners to achieve recognised qualifications
- Contribute to continuous improvement of curriculum and learner experience, and quality assurance activities as required
- Deliver training in a variety of learning situations and environments
- Plan, deliver and facilitate effective teaching, learning and assessment
- Use a variety of teaching and learning methods to achieve successful outcomes
- Work collaboratively with the contracted Education provider (Novus) and other partner agencies
- Complete all documentation as required to meet the requirements of the Company, the contract and relevant external bodies
- Monitor progress so that learners receive appropriate support to overcome barriers, develop confidence and achieve their goals
- Manage the teaching environment ensuring security of tools and equipment and maintenance to contractual requirements
- Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions
- Assist in creating a positive Health and Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes the reporting of accidents and near misses in a timely manner and application of safe systems of work for the role
- Support commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of vulnerable children and adults

Essential Skills
- Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this
- Proven experience of Employability training delivery
- Level or equivalent Maths and English
- Good basic IT skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of health and safety practices
- Ability to work flexibly, manage own workload and adapt to learner needs
Desirable Skills
- Relevant Level 3 qualification
- Experience of working with vulnerable groups
