Overview
Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer / Department Manager – East Sussex (Hybrid role so national)
Salary: to cGBP60,000 depending on experience
Our Eastbourne, East Sussex based client has been established for more than 25 years and are globally recognised as market leaders in the design, manufacture and installation of innovative high quality stair solutions for supply throughout the world. They are continuing a programme of strategic growth and are looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer / Department Manager to complement their established team.
While occasionally undertaking bespoke staircase design from concept through to handover, the role predominantly requires taking an existing design from a leading architect and developing it to construction, taking into account aesthetics, buildability, program, budget and sustainability. You will specify materials, components and finishes that meet the project brief, regulations, are commercially viable and available, and work with the project design team while liaising with the companys production facility in the Netherlands and installers in the UK. Careful document management and excellent client communication are essential to ensure contracts are complied with and any variations are captured.
Responsibilities
- Take existing designs from leading architects and develop them to construction, considering aesthetics, buildability, program, budget and sustainability.
- Specify materials, components and finishes that meet project briefs, regulations and commercial viability.
- Work with the project design team and liaise with the production facility in the Netherlands and UK installers.
- Ensure careful document management and maintain clear client communication to ensure contracts are complied with and variations are captured.
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience of using AutoCAD with Parametric modelling for 3D CAD (preferred to Direct modelling) or Autodesk Fusion 360
- Knowledge of helical / spiral stair design
- BIM experience
- Familiarity with bespoke metalwork and architectural products and experience in the design of stairs and balustrades
- Effective communication skills when liaising with other internal departments, customers, and suppliers
- Project management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Adaptability and ability to work on your own initiative and multi-task
- Proficiency with the MS suite of packages
- Commercial awareness
