The Attendance and Safeguarding Officer will support the Assistant Principal in delivering a vision for excellence by providing high-standard administrative support and a service that enables teachers to teach and students to learn. The role creates a safe and cooperative climate for education, facilitating governance, attendance management and safeguarding within statutory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Assistant Principal in implementing attendance and safeguarding strategy.
- Analyse attendance data, produce reports and identify patterns.
- Work directly with parents/carers to improve student attendance.
- Maintain confidential records and handle sensitive information securely.
- Engage in multi-agency working and referral processes.
- Conduct challenging conversations professionally and constructively.
- Assist in safeguarding responsibilities and threshold referrals.
- Use attendance reporting tools and attend related training.
Person Specification
Essential
- Educated to at least GCSE standard, including Maths and English Grade C/5 or above.
- Basic First Aid or willingness to undertake it.
- Understanding of current DfE attendance guidance and statutory procedures.
- Knowledge of persistent absence, severe absence and attendance intervention frameworks.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and thresholds for referral.
- Knowledge of barriers to attendance and strategies to support vulnerable students.
- Experience of analysing attendance data and producing reports.
- Experience of working directly with parents/carers to improve student attendance.
- Experience of maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information.
- Experience of multi-agency working and referral processes.
Desirable
- Experience as an Attendance Officer, Education Welfare Officer or Family Support Worker.
- Experience of attendance panel meetings and legal attendance processes.
- Experience of working as a Deputy DSL or within safeguarding teams.
- Experience of using Bromcom attendance reporting tools.
