The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced HR Manager to support a complex, multi-site operational environment within a matrix organisation. This is a hands-on, site-based role with responsibility for a large, unionised flagship operation alongside smaller, lighter-touch contracts across the UK. The position would suit an HR Manager who is readying themselves for a future HR Business Partner role and thrives in fast-paced, operational settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the on-site HR lead for a large manufacturing/logistics operation
- Support and coach senior leaders, line managers, and team leaders on people matters
- Embed centrally defined HR strategies and processes across multiple sites
- Drive a shift in accountability for people management back to line managers
- Operate effectively within a strong unionised environment
- Work closely with HR Centres of Excellence (ER, Talent, Reward, People Services), clearly understanding where operational HR ownership sits
- Provide light-touch HR support to additional contracts across multiple UK locations
- Balance operational delivery with change, consistency, and governance
- Regular UK travel to smaller satellite sites
About You
- Proven HR Manager experience in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, engineering, or similar operational environments
- Strong background working within matrix organisations
- Experience supporting or working within unionised environments
- Confident influencing senior stakeholders and operational leaders
- Pragmatic, resilient, and comfortable operating at pace
- Not suited to candidates from purely corporate, professional services, or standalone HR roles
