Primary Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in Cambridge and surrounding areas. We are assisting an established portfolio of primary schools, junior schools, and academies seeking adaptable, passionate HLTAs who can lead classrooms, deliver pre-planned lessons, and support teachers in raising pupil attainment across EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. Working Arrangements

  • Day-to-Day Cover: Take control of your schedule by choosing the days you want to work, suitable for personal commitments, studies, or lifestyle, with experience across different school settings.
  • Long-Term Opportunities: Fixed-term HLTA roles spanning a term or a full academic year, enabling you to embed within a school team, deliver consistent interventions, cover PPA time, and track pupil progress over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Cover: Confidently take whole-class responsibility to cover planned teacher absences, scheduled PPA time, or short-term sickness, delivering pre-planned lessons across various primary subjects.
  • Targeted Interventions: Plan, prepare, and deliver small-group or 1:1 interventions in literacy, numeracy, and phonics to bridge learning gaps and boost pupil confidence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with class teachers to assess pupil progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt learning resources to diverse needs.
  • Learning Environment: Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive classroom environment with strong behaviour management to keep pupils motivated and focused.

What We Look For

  • HLTA Status (or equivalent Level 4 qualification), or a recognised foundation degree in education. Experienced primary teachers seeking HLTA work are welcome.
  • Proven experience independently leading whole classes within a primary school setting (EYFS, KS1, or KS2).
  • Excellent knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and primary age-group development.
  • Outstanding communication skills, a proactive attitude, and confident classroom management.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).
