Your Role as a Behavioural Specialist
As a Behavioural Support Assistant in an SEND setting, you are the anchor for students who may find the world an overwhelming or frustrating place.
- De-escalation and Crisis Support: Use specialist training (such as Team-Teach or MAPA) to safely manage challenging moments and help students return to a state of calm.
- Personalised Mentoring: Work 1:1 to implement Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), using sensory breaks and positive reinforcement to build confidence.
- Social and Life Skills: Help students develop the tools they need to communicate their needs effectively, reducing the need for acting out through frustration.
- Holistic Tracking: Work closely with Therapists, SENCOs, and families to ensure a 360-degree approach to the students' well-being and progress.
