We are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for one of the largest and most successful privately-owned construction and development groups in the UK. They pride themselves on family feel culture, underpinned by a massive scale of operation and a debt-free financial standing. The Bristol team is expanding, and are looking for someone who thrives on autonomy, technical challenge, and delivering excellence.
Your Role
As a Senior QS, you won't just be crunching numbers. You will be the commercial heartbeat of your assigned projects, typically ranging from GBP10m to GBP70m+ across sectors including commercial, education, industrial, and student accommodation in both new build and cut and carve.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Management: Oversee the financial performance of major projects from inception to final account.
- Procurement: Manage subcontract procurement, ensuring robust scopes of work and competitive pricing.
- Risk and Opportunity: Identify commercial risks early and develop mitigation strategies while maximizing project margins.
- Reporting: Deliver accurate monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and financial forecasts to the Commercial Manager.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and leadership to Assistant and Trainee Surveyors within the project team.
What They are Looking For
- Experience: Proven track record as a Lead or Senior QS within a Tier 1 or major Tier 2 main contractor.
- Project History: Experience managing design and build (D and B) contracts is essential.
- Qualifications: A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline. RICS/ICES membership is a plus but not a dealbreaker.
- Local Knowledge: A strong understanding of the South West supply chain and market conditions.
- Drive: Someone who takes ownership of their project and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo to get the best result.
