Salary Scale D: Starts at £27,204 rising incrementally to a maximum of £29,859 per annum. Commencing salary for this role is £31,012 to £34,039 per annum inclusive of a 14-shift allowance, with potential to earn up to £2,500 weekend working allowance after completing classroom-based training.

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week)

Role and Responsibilities:

  • The DCM: Contact Officer, based at Bournemouth Police Station (OC), will act as the front line of policing.
  • Responsibilities include receiving non-emergency and emergency calls, and online contacts from members of the public.
  • Ensuring appropriate help and support is established.
  • Handling every call with empathy and remaining calm when dealing with potentially sensitive and upsetting situations.
  • Conducting risk assessments.
  • Providing an efficient and reactive response to requests for service within a 24-hour capability.
  • The focus is on making every contact count by getting it right the first time and ensuring an efficient and effective customer journey.

Training and On-the-Job Preparation:

  • Before the Contact Officer training course, the successful candidate will work as a triage operator to familiarize themselves with the Contact Centre and types of enquiries.
  • The duration of triage work will vary depending on the timing of the next training course.
  • The course lasts 12 weeks; no annual leave is granted during training. Any leave booked prior to joining will be honoured.
  • The role is based in Bournemouth but may require travel to Winfrith for training.

Recruitment Timeline:

  • Eligibility via the e-recruitment portal.
  • Situational Judgement Test – complete within 7 days of eligibility.
  • Virtual Assessment Centre – complete within 7 days of passing the SJT.
  • Final interview and telephone assessment – interview link provided after passing SJT and VAC.

Working Arrangement:

  • Static: the role requires presence at specific force premises with limited opportunity for remote work.
  • This position is 37 hours per week but flexible part-time arrangements may be considered where business need allows.
  • Hybrid working details include a minimum of one day per week in the office.
  • This role is subject to change as per business requirements.
