You’ll deliver high‑quality nursing care and psychosocial interventions within a structured prison setting, supporting patients through medical detox, recovery programmes, and complex physical, psychological, and social needs, working closely with Registered Nurses and the wider clinical team to provide safe, person‑centred care.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care
  • Delivering 1:1 interventions aligned to individual recovery and treatment plans
  • Assisting with medical detox, observations, and medication support (including controlled drug checks)
  • Monitoring, recording, and reporting on physical and mental health changes
  • Supporting 12 Step recovery work and health promotion activities
  • Carrying out brief crisis interventions when required
  • Participating in community and code of conduct meetings

What we’re looking for:

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication, organisation, and time management skills
  • Confidence working in secure environments with clear boundaries and procedures
  • Accurate record keeping and IT competence
  • Understanding of substance misuse, recovery models, and their wider impact (desirable)
  • Experience in health, social care, residential, or clinical settings (desirable)

Personal qualities that matter:

  • Resilient and able to learn from challenges
  • Adaptable and confident in changing environments
  • A strong team player who builds effective working relationships
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
  • Professional, compassionate, and confident in communication

You’ll work within strict clinical governance frameworks, adhering to the NMC Code, safeguarding procedures, infection control standards, and prison security requirements. You’ll manage competing priorities, contribute to risk assessments, and support safe, effective treatment journeys from admission through to recovery. This is a role where structure meets compassion, and where your work directly supports recovery, stability, and change. All prison‑based roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting. These checks can take up to 5 months to complete.
