The Workshop Mechanical & Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the safe and effective day-to-day management of mechanical repair, overhaul and refurbishment activities within the engineering workshop.

The role ensures rotating equipment, pumps, gearboxes, valves, agitators, heat exchangers, mechanical components and associated assets are repaired, refurbished, assembled and tested in accordance with approved engineering standards, quality requirements, site procedures and delivery schedules.

The position supports plant reliability, maintenance performance and engineering improvement activities through effective supervision of workshop personnel, contractors and workshop resources while ensuring electrical and instrumentation support requirements are appropriately coordinated.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Safety, Health & Compliance: Ensure all workshop mechanical and electrical activities are completed safely, compliantly and in line with site procedures, permits, engineering standards, statutory requirements and Management of Change expectations.
• Workshop Supervision: Supervise workshop personnel and contractors, allocate resources, monitor work progress and support workforce development to ensure repair and refurbishment activities are delivered safely, efficiently and on schedule.
• Mechanical Maintenance & Refurbishment Delivery: Coordinate the overhaul, repair, refurbishment and assembly of mechanical equipment for maintenance, shutdowns, projects and reliability improvement activities. Ensure repairs are completed in accordance with engineering specifications, manufacturer requirements and site standards.
• Electrical & Instrumentation Coordination: Coordinate workshop-based electrical and instrumentation support activities, ensuring inspection, testing, repair and refurbishment requirements are effectively planned and delivered in support of operational and maintenance priorities.
• Quality Assurance & Control: Maintain quality assurance and quality control standards across all workshop activities by ensuring inspection requirements, repair records, testing procedures, engineering tolerances and quality documentation are completed and maintained. Promote a right-first-time approach to all repairs and refurbishments.
• Asset Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Support plant reliability improvements by identifying recurring equipment failures, contributing to root cause investigations, recommending engineering improvements and implementing agreed corrective actions.
• Planning, Resource & Contractor Management: Work closely with planners, engineers, stores personnel, contractors and external refurbishment providers to ensure labour, materials, tools, spare parts and specialist services are available and effectively managed. Prioritise work in line with operational needs, ensuring activities are delivered safely, to specification, on schedule, on budget and to the required quality standards.
• Workshop Equipment & Facilities: Maintain workshop equipment, lifting equipment, tooling, test equipment and work areas to ensure a safe, organised and efficient working environment.

Experience and Qualifications

• Apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical maintenance, equipment refurbishment or engineering workshop activities within an industrial environment.
• Previous supervisory experience within a maintenance, repair or engineering workshop.
• Strong understanding of rotating equipment, pumps, gearboxes, valves and mechanical systems.
• Experience supervising equipment overhaul and refurbishment activities.
• Knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications and maintenance standards.
• Understanding of quality control, inspection and testing requirements.
• Good planning, organisational and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance and engineering excellence.
• HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience within a chemical, process, heavy manufacturing or Upper Tier COMAH environment.
• Knowledge of electrical and instrumentation maintenance principles.
• Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance.
• Experience supporting shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
• Experience managing external service providers and refurbishment contractors.
• Knowledge of condition monitoring and reliability improvement techniques.
• Knowledge of Management of Change processes.
• Experience working with stores, spares management and work order kitting processes
