Level 3 Nursery Practitioner

Location: Wokingham

Hours: 6 hours a day (flexible times)/ 5 days a week

Reports to: Centre Manager

The nursery in Wokingham is a unique early years setting supporting working parents through a combination of professional co-working spaces and high-quality, Ofsted-registered childcare. The setting provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that promotes children’s learning, play, and emotional wellbeing.

Role Purpose

The Educator is responsible for supporting the daily care, learning, and development of children ages 0–5, delivering high-quality practice in line with the EYFS framework. The role contributes to ensuring children are safe, engaged, included, and making progress, while maintaining a strong safeguarding culture and positive partnerships with parents.

Key Responsibilities

Quality of Care & Education (Ofsted: Quality of Education)

• Support the delivery of a broad, balanced, and developmentally appropriate EYFS curriculum.
• Plan and deliver engaging, child-centred activities that support learning across all areas of development.
• Create and maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment.
• Observe, assess, and contribute to records of children’s learning and development, informing next steps.
• Support children’s emotional wellbeing, independence, and positive behaviour through consistent, nurturing practice.

Safeguarding & Welfare (Ofsted: Safeguarding is Effective)

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children at all times.
• Follow safeguarding, child protection, whistleblowing, and online safety policies and procedures.
• Recognise and report concerns promptly in line with safeguarding procedures.
• Maintain appropriate supervision of children, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and dignity.
• Support children’s physical health through safe routines, hygiene practices, and positive care experiences.

Inclusion, Equality & Diversity

• Promote inclusive practice, ensuring all children feel safe, valued, and supported.
• Adapt activities and interactions to meet individual needs, including children with SEND or additional needs.
• Use inclusive resources and language that reflect diversity and challenge stereotypes.

Parent Partnerships

• Build positive, respectful relationships with parents and carers.
• Share relevant information about children’s learning, wellbeing, and daily experiences.
• Support parent inductions and transitions, ensuring families feel welcomed and informed.
• Respond professionally and sensitively to questions or concerns, escalating when appropriate.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety within the childcare environment.
• Follow health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and daily checks consistently.
• Report accidents, incidents, safeguarding concerns, or maintenance issues promptly and accurately.
• Ensure equipment, resources, and learning spaces are safe and suitable for children’s use.

Teamwork & Professional Practice (Ofsted: Leadership and Management)

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain consistent, high-quality practice.
• Attend staff meetings, supervision, training, and professional development sessions as required.
• Reflect on practice and engage positively with feedback to improve outcomes for children.
• Uphold the values, ethos, and professional standards of the nursery at all times.

Requirements

Essential

• Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or Childcare
• Enhanced DBS clearance and subscription to the DBS Update Service.
• Clear understanding of the EYFS framework and safeguarding responsibilities.
• Commitment to promoting children’s welfare, learning, and development.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
• Paediatric First Aid qualification or willing to obtain.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a nursery or early years setting.
• Paediatric First Aid qualification or willing to obtain.
• Understanding of inclusive practice and supporting children with additional needs.

Hours & Working Pattern

• Shifts typically between 08:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday. 6 hours a day.
• Flexibility required to cover additional shifts when available.
