Tindall Riley & Co Ltd is seeking a hands-on Data Officer to lead our data governance, quality, and consistency initiatives across all core business applications. This is a pivotal role for an experienced data professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and can work independently to establish robust data management practices from the ground up. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring our data assets are accurate, consistent, and effectively governed across the organisation.
This role requires someone who can operate at both strategic and tactical levels, with the technical expertise to implement solutions and the business acumen to drive organisational adoption. This is a hands-on position requiring someone who can work independently while building relationships across the organisation. The successful candidate will be the sole member of the data team initially, making this role ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and taking ownership of end-to-end processes.
The position offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the organisation’s data maturity and business intelligence capabilities. You will have the chance to establish best practices, implement new technologies, and create lasting value through improved data quality and governance. This position is offered as a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, providing an opportunity to lead and shape the organisation’s data governance and quality initiatives.
Your Responsibilities
- Data Governance & Strategy
- Develop and implement comprehensive data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures across all core business applications.
- Establish data quality standards and metrics to ensure consistency and accuracy throughout the organisation.
- Create and maintain data lineage documentation and data cataloguing systems.
- Drive data stewardship initiatives and establish clear accountability for data ownership.
- Technical Implementation
- Design and implement data validation, cleansing, and monitoring processes.
- Develop automated data quality checks and exception reporting mechanisms.
- Create and maintain data integration standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with vendors and your wider IT and firm colleagues to ensure data governance requirements are embedded in system designs and upgrades.
- Platform Reporting & Analytics
- Build and maintain executive-level dashboards and reporting capabilities.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for data quality and governance metrics.
- Create standardised reporting templates and ensure consistent data presentation across the organisation.
- Provide analytical insights to support business decision-making processes.
- Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- Conduct thorough analysis of current data flows and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Map business processes to data requirements and ensure alignment with governance standards.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops to gather requirements and drive consensus on data standards.
- Stakeholder Management
- Partner with department heads to understand their data needs and challenges.
- Provide training and support to business users on data governance principles and tools.
- Communicate data governance initiatives, progress, and value to executive leadership.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all data-related queries and escalations.
About You
- Knowledge/Experience
- Experience in a senior data leadership or management role, with direct, hands‑on involvement in resolving data quality, data consistency and integration issues across business systems.
- Proven experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies and standards, not just operating within existing ones.

- Background in analysing end‑to‑end data flows and working with business users to understand requirements and translate them into actionable technical solutions.
- Experience working with core business applications and recognising data interdependencies across processes.
- Previous experience operating in regulated environments, ideally in financial services or professional services.
- Working knowledge of data privacy and regulatory obligations, including UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
- Qualifications/Education
- Relevant professional certifications or training in data management, governance or analytics (e.g., DAMA, CDMP, or equivalent).
- Skills
- Strong practical skills in SQL, database management and data interrogation.
- Experience with reporting and data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Understanding of ETL processes, data integration platforms, and data modelling principles.
- Familiarity with data quality and metadata tools, including profiling, validation and catalogue solutions.
- Strong communicator with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business language.
- Proven ability to influence at all levels and drive change across an organisation.
- Effective at requirements gathering, process mapping, and workflow analysis.
