Compensation and Benefits Manager provides expert advice and administrative support on all matters relating to Compensation, Benefits and Payroll Management across the Group. The role supports the Group HR strategy to optimise the Groups ability to attract, retain, develop, motivate and fairly reward talented people, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice across all jurisdictions.
Your Responsibilities
- Payroll
- Work with third parties to manage monthly payroll processes in all Group locations accurately, on time and within cost parameters, while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with local payroll and tax regulations, data protection and security standards.
- Design, implement and maintain payroll policies, procedures and workflows.
- Manage payroll adjustments including back pay, severance, off‑cycle payments, deductions and benefits contributions.
- Generate and distribute payroll reports (weekly, quarterly and annual) covering earnings, deductions, taxes and benefits.
- Reconcile payroll and HR data to ensure accuracy, completeness and integrity.
- Partner with Finance and HR on budgeting, forecasting and cost analysis.
- Act as the subject matter expert for payroll queries, resolving complex issues and providing guidance to stakeholders.
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive payroll data and consistent employee experience through clear communication.
- Identify process inefficiencies and implement workflow improvements to enhance accuracy, reduce risk and increase automation.
- Ensure robust payroll controls and back‑up procedures are in place to support business continuity.
- Benefits
- Provide technical support to employees, approved outsourced providers, internal and external auditors, tax and social security authorities, and the Group Finance team.
- Review and maintain the accuracy of benefits content across platforms and communication materials, ensuring data integrity and timely updates.
- Act as the first point of contact for employee benefits queries, ensuring prompt, accurate and consistent responses.
- Maintain a competitive and compliant benefits portfolio, recommending enhancements and alternative solutions aligned to market practice and cost efficiency.
- Manage the annual benefits enrolment process, including system configuration, testing, communications and vendor coordination.
- Ensure smooth onboarding and off boarding of employees with accurate benefits administration and data transfer.
- Coordinate employee benefits seminars and communications, including annual pensions briefings.
- Oversee relationships with benefits and pension providers to ensure service quality, compliance and value for money.
- Monitor service level agreements and ensure timely and accurate processing of all benefits transactions.
- Support regulatory compliance, including auto‑enrolment, pension governance, and reporting obligations.
- Reward
- Develop and deliver the annual pay and bonus review process in partnership with the Group People Director, HR Business Partners and Finance, ensuring robust governance, compliance and timely execution.
- Lead the Reward project plan, managing processes and outputs including benchmarking, modelling, communications and system configuration.
- Provide market insights and analysis to support the development of competitive and equitable reward frameworks aligned to the insurance sector.
- Manage the annual flexible benefits and incentive plan renewals, ensuring cost control, regulatory compliance and effective employee communication.
- Ensure company compliance with all relevant employment, tax, pensions and regulatory requirements.
- Support the design and maintenance of grading structures, job evaluation and pay frameworks to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Prepare reward data, presentations and recommendations for senior leadership, Remuneration Committee and Board papers.
- Support attraction and retention strategies through effective reward positioning and communication.
- Global Mobility
- Develop and support the Groups global mobility programmes and processes, including international assignments, secondments and remote working arrangements.
- Manage shadow payrolls for international assignees and work with external tax advisors to ensure accurate tax compliance and reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of assignments, manage payroll and third‑party advisor relationships, and ensure all benefits are correctly provided.
- Support immigration, relocation, repatriation and remote hiring processes in line with regulatory and business requirements.
- Group HR
- Contribute to the development of HR policies, processes and employee handbooks, ensuring alignment with employment law and regulatory standards across jurisdictions.
- Provide expert guidance on compensation planning, regulatory compliance and governance requirements.
- Analyse people and reward data to provide insights for HR risk management, workforce planning and Board reporting.
- Support HR transformation initiatives, systems implementations and process improvements.
- Manage allocated budgets, ensuring cost control and value for money across payroll, benefits and reward programmes.
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll, pension and bonus processing, aligned with agreed timelines and controls.
About You
- Knowledge
- In‑depth knowledge of UK and international payroll, compensation, benefits and pension frameworks.
- Strong understanding of employment law, tax, social security and regulatory requirements, ideally within the insurance or financial services sector.
- Knowledge of reward strategy design, job evaluation, market benchmarking and incentive schemes.
- Experience
- Proven senior‑level experience in Compensation & Benefits and Payroll management within a complex, multi‑entity or international organisation.
- Experience managing outsourced payroll providers and third‑party benefits and pension suppliers.
- Demonstrable experience leading annual pay and bonus review cycles, benefits renewals and regulatory reporting.
- Experience supporting senior stakeholders, Remuneration Committees and Board‑level reporting.
