Racing Equine Trainer Coach – Birmingham, West Midlands (Full Time, Permanent)
Salary: £26,000 – £33,000 plus benefits: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, 4 days Christmas shutdown, 1 birthday off plus bank holidays, Early finish Fridays, Westfield Health benefits, employee ownership, pension scheme, long‑service awards, one‑off payments, increased annual leave, 45p per mile mileage allowance.
Overview
Our award winning training provider is on a mission to grow its Racing and Equine sectors. We deliver work‑based trainee and apprenticeship programmes to all age groups, providing equine, animal care and business services training through a national network of highly qualified trainer‑coaches and over 800 employers throughout England and Wales. Your role will involve actively managing a caseload of learners and delivering our Equine and Racing qualifications while ensuring compliance with Department of Education (DfE) funding rules. You will work closely with learners, employers, the Curriculum Specialist for Functional Skills, and Internal Quality Assurers (IQAs) to maintain high quality throughout every training stage. Our blended learning model combines face‑to‑face and remote delivery tailored to each learner.
Key Responsibilities
- Enrolment, induction and initial assessment
- Equine & Racing care teaching, learning and assessment
- Coaching and mentoring of learners
- Delivery of Functional Skills English and Maths
- Supporting wider curriculum areas (PREVENT, British Values, Safeguarding, ICT, Information, Advice and Guidance, etc.)
- Ensuring accurate paperwork and audit‑ready documentation of the learner journey
Personal Qualities

Essential Industry‑Specific Experience
- Up‑to‑date, relevant experience within the Equine and/or Racing industry in a senior or management role (e.g., head lad/lass, yard manager, senior instructor)
- Passion for work‑based learning
- Practical knowledge of apprenticeships, infrastructure, tools and technologies for application support
- Demonstrated occupational competence with a CPD record and proven service record in the industry
- Extensive knowledge of horse anatomy, physiology and welfare
- Experience with best practice in workplace saddlery, equipment and clothing maintenance
- Safe working practices in an equine and racing environment (routine yard, field duties, horse husbandry)
Essential Qualifications
- Work‑based Diploma Level 3 in Horse Care and Management or Racehorse Care and Management or BHS Stage 3 Care and Ride
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths or ability to achieve within probation
- Experience with quality assurance processes and regulatory compliance
- Commitment to ongoing professional development relevant to the assessed industry area

- Working knowledge of the equestrian and racing sector
- Excellent written and verbal communication, providing concise feedback to learners, assessors and stakeholders
- Experience producing clear, accurate, and detailed written reports, including remarks and enquiries about results

- Capability to build strong relationships with employers, learners and colleagues
