We are seeking an enthusiastic grounds person to join our small and friendly team responsible for maintaining the lawns and hedges on a private country estate near Tarporley.

Location: Tarporley, Chester UK

Wage: from £22,425.00

Job Type: Full time, Mon-Friday 8am-4pm with one weekend in the year during May or June for the annual National Garden Scheme Open Day.

The successful candidate will assist in the upkeep of an established garden under the guidance of the Head Gardener and estate owner. This role encompasses all aspects of ground management including the care of woodland and wildflower meadow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The grounds person will play a key role in ensuring the lawns and hedges and woodland are kept to an extremely high standard using varied machinery which include hand mowers, ride on mowers, strimmers, tractor and trailers.
  • The tasks involved are lawn cutting and maintaining, yearly scarification, seasonal lawn treatments, neatly kept lawn edges.
  • Additional responsibilities include leaf clearing, care of trees, compost bay maintenance and assisting the head gardener with other tasks as needed within the scope of the role.

Skills:

  • We are looking for a trustworthy and dedicated individual who will take extreme pride in their work and enjoy working as a team and individually.
  • Applicants should possess a strong passion for horticulture and relevant gardening experience, including working in varying weather conditions.
  • A valid drivers license is essential due to the location of the property.
  • Training or qualifications in Health and Safety, chainsaw operation, PA1 & 6 spray handling and ATV/tractor operation are desirable but not entirely essential.

As this role is based within a private estate setting, applicants must be loyal and trustworthy and would be expected to always exercise the utmost discretion to respect the privacy of the owner. The successful candidate will be offered subject to reference checks.
