A global technology leader is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Birmingham. This role will play a key role in delivering cutting‑edge bespoke projects for clients worldwide in a fast‑paced, innovative environment that values creativity, collaboration and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and oversee mechanical design projects from concept through to completion.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cross‑functional teams.
- Develop detailed mechanical designs and calculations for complex, high‑performance systems.
- Lead design, prototyping, testing and validation of new products and design improvements.
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Value Engineering principles to ensure smooth transition from concept to production.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to align design, manufacturing and delivery goals.
- Partner with suppliers, clients and industry experts to solve technical challenges and innovate solutions.
About You
You’ll be a proven design leader with a track record of delivering complex engineering projects from initial concept through to successful implementation. You’re confident using advanced 3D CAD tools such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Solid Edge or Creo, and have a strong grasp of modern design and manufacturing techniques. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be a strong advantage:
- Bespoke or special‑purpose machinery.
- Pick‑and‑place systems, mechanisms or moving assemblies.
- Pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, drives, belts or pulleys.
A formal qualification (HNC, HND or degree) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is desirable.
